As part of the island-wide “Punarudaya Purawara” Local Government Week, held from September 14 to 19, an awareness programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) was conducted on September 18, 2026, at Kegalle/Dehi Abhayaraja Maha Vidyalaya, in conjunction with Literature, Education, Library and Sports Day. The programme was conducted with the participation of students from Kegalle/Dehi Seepoth Senanayake Junior College, Kegalle/Dehi Abhayaraja Maha Vidyalaya, and Kegalle/Dehi Gamini Junior College.

The programme was organized by the Yatiyantota Pradeshiya Sabha and Public Library, under the guidance of the Chairman of the Yatiyantota Pradeshiya Sabha and the Divisional Secretary. Resource support for the programme was provided by the Lanka Institute of Language and Information Technology (LILIT) under the DigiLearn Project, implemented by Webscomms Global (Pvt) Ltd.

The programme was successfully conducted with the primary objectives of providing participants with a basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, explaining how AI is being utilized in the future job market, and raising awareness of how AI can be applied in education, libraries, public services, and office-related activities. Participants were also educated about potential misinformation, privacy concerns, and data security risks that may arise when using AI.
